How to Pray in Times of National Crisis
I was working at Jacknife Records and Tapes in Atwater Village in 2018. Trevor had aisles of $1 cassette tapes and during my shift once a week I would look through the neatly positioned cardboard boxes for tapes I could use. Home recordings, academic lectures, audio books, voice memos. Anything that wasn’t music. I accumulated so many of these tapes— The Unhealthy Family, Lecture on Lesbian Health, Second Child, How to Pray in Times of National Crisis— and would pick them at random to either record over on my 4 track or make into tape loops.
I started recording this album around the same time in 2018 over a Memorex tape that had a religious lecture titled “How to Pray in Times of National Crisis” by Rev. Jack Hayford. The insert also included the text “Gen 18:17-23”. I had no idea how fitting that title would be.
2020 forced us into a state of panic and self reflection. Through said panic and self reflection, I was finally able to give myself the time to experiment with long form formats, something I was initially intimidated by. The end result is something I hope invokes introspection and contemplation.

Recorded 2018-20 in Glendale and La Crescenta, CA on Tascam Mini and Fostex X-14 4-tracks.
Twins/Romantica by Duster and sounds of Uranus provided by NASA sampled on Sounds of Uranus vs Duster.
