Phthalo is a collection of recordings dating back to 2016 by Jamison Murphy and Austyn Wohlers (also of Paradise Montage, Tomato Flower). With influence from 1960s library music, chamber music, and ambient tape loops, Phthalo moves between stately compositions and chaotic improvisations.
Austyn and Jamison met when they were 16 and have been partners since they were 19. Lightful Duo began in Atlanta with their experiments in ambient music; they started performing together live in 2016. Phthalo was made with a variety of recording and composition techniques and compiled from a large archive and over winter 2021. They are currently based in Baltimore.
